Welcome to In the Meadow Books, an independent publishing company based out of Sweet Meadows Farm in Northern Vermont. At the moment, we are not publishing books from outside authors, but may consider it as a future possibility. If that is of interest, please contact us directly for more information.
We focus on writing about topics that center around nature and the environment, homesteading and permaculture, natural living and traditional healthy foods, and sustainability. Our children are the future stewards of our planet, so teaching them from a young age about farming, sustainability and homesteading can bring about a new generation that will help to return our earth and communities to health. And for adults, using our farm animals with humor is a form of animal therapy, and laughter IS the best medicine in a world where people could be more kind and compassionate. Being able to share what we do on our farm with the rest of the world is a true joy.
Valerie Parker is a writer, photographer, homeschool mom and homesteader. Originally from the South, she and her husband and two children live on a small, diverse permaculture farm in Vermont where they grow organic fruits, herbs and vegetables. She specializes in breeding registered Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats that are super friendly and healthy. They are socialized heavily from the moment they are born, and are raised as naturally as possible. Their farm menagerie also includes chickens, cats, Holland Lop bunnies and a beloved farm dog named Annie, who is the star of one of Valerie’s books, The Adventures of Sweet Meadows Farm: Annie the Farm Dog Helps Out. Being able to combine her passions for homesteading, writing, teaching and photography is the best job in the world.
We are so happy that you have visited us! Stay tuned for more projects that are already underway!
